As my now one visitor may have noticed, I’m not updating with any fierce regularity.

Recently I’ve been preparing for my job on a documentary movie shoot. This will last about three weeks, during which time I probably won’t have time to stop and write.

I intend to be back, but not until then.

My political posts are getting a lot of traffic, which means I should probably get on here and rant about Palin some more.

But–

for the… four… regular visitors of this blog (hello everyone), I intended more than turning this into a platform for my unexperienced political voice. This is also a platform for my unexperienced internet news presentation.

First of all, I swear to god my friends and I were talking about this yesterday.

How to create your own video spy glasses. Which, as we can all visualized in our mind-tanks, is one backpack laptop away from a constant point-of-view video blog. I bet people would watch that. Legal issues could crop up, but living in a one-party state and staying aware of hidden camera laws could make it viable.

Second point of order–somebody please remind me to write an essay on why this picture is an excellent metaphor for post-collegiate job searches.

Next up, I present the best image I’ve seen all hour.

Finally, (via metafilter) it’s finally happened. The internet has produced a device which gives your MP3’s a scalable cowbell and Christopher Walken.

Surely this is the height of human achievement.

I’ve listened to a few crackpots talk about their theories on the LHC. My referral to them as crackpots should give you an idea of how seriously I take their opinion.

Anybody that thinks the world is going to end tomorrow is gullible, and should talk to me about advertising rates on this, the most popular blog in the world.

I have thought, however, about what my own personal hopes are for the LHC. Besides learning more about the beginning of the universe, surely there are some fantastical things the scientists involved in the project haven’t accounted for.

For example, I hope everything on earth spontaneously turns purple. Surely the odds of that are less than the earth ending.

I also want everyone’s left hand to be switched with their right. Oh, boy. That would be funny.

The ocean should be turned to donuts as well. Complete with donut-breathing aquatic life.

What are your hopes?

As the shock wave that is Sarah Palin resonates across America, truth, hype, history, and bad are being sifted out. Supporters of Palin love her–she is a historic champion. The perfect VP pick, and a breath of fresh air for the G.O.P. Her critics point to the huge debt she left Wasilla, and the ethics scandal she’s currently being investigated for.

I’m going to be up front. Reading my past posts will reveal this. I’m not a supporter of Sarah Palin.

I remember the day after McCain announced Palin. A friend of mine pulled up the Anchorage daily news, and the top headlines were as follows: “Palin touts stance on ‘Bridge to Nowere,’ doesn’t note flip-flop.”

I was concerned by the bias in that statement, as well as in the article. This isn’t what I look for in a newspaper. Regardless, though, I still have faith in a professional newspaper to keep its facts straight. Palin initially supported the bridge.

Which makes me sad that she’s been flaunting her rejection of the bridge as an example of her excellent economic reform, and ability to cut wasteful spending.

CNN has recently looked into the economic success the G.O.P is so proud of. Governor Palin kept the citizen’s taxes down, and put a surplus of 5 billion dollars into Alaska. The reason Palin gave for this was her aggressive cuts in wasteful spending.

Which isn’t true. Spending went up under her administration.

She taxed the oil companies. This is how she did it.

Is this a bad thing? A lot of people I know would applaud that strategy. Oil is a big business with a bad reputation, and I doubt many people will shed a tear if America starts re-distributing a portion of their profits.

The question that needs to be asked, though, is if this deserves the level of respect and adoration Palin has received? Could America dig itself out of debt by taxing big businesses, and selling jets on Ebay?

Isn’t this a less elegant version of Obama’s plan?

I have had to adopt a mantra from time to time, when the hands of fate guide my television to Fox news. Bill O’Reilly is not a journalist. Bill O’Reilly is not a journalist. He comments on the news. His show is for entertainment purposes–it’s an unfunny Daily Show.

Because, ladies and gentlemen, journalists convey facts. They present events to the world with the least bias possible. Any journalist who fails to do this loses credibility, and begins to slide the slippery slope to the basement of our culture, where Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly have found themselves kings of trash, knighted each other with dead salmon, and fashioned robes from old playboys and dried dog’s vomit. One might as well start a blog.

Anybody who thinks Bill O’Reilly is unbiased should take a very hard look at his September 4th interview of Barack Obama.

Well first of all thanks for being a man of your word.

These were the first words of the interview, and the point at which I feel it stopped being one. From word one, O’Reilly tries to make Obama look unreliable. I have to say, this isn’t appreciated by me, and shouldn’t be tolerated in an interview. What kind of person starts a conversation, much less a professional interview, by acting surprised they even turned up?

Bill then keeps Obama on the defensive.

Do you believe we’re in the middle of a war on terror.

Then…

Who’s the enemy?

What does Bill expect Obama to say? Is he hoping the man will start screaming “whitey’s to blame,” and dash out of the room? These are not hard hitting questions. These are barely interview questions. They are a patronizing quiz, implying that Obama doesn’t know who terrorists are.

We’re roughly twenty seconds into the interview at this point, and O’Reilly’s pattern of unprofessional and unintelligent behavior has been set. At one point O’Reilly requests that Obama admits he was wrong about Iraq. Which, aside from being horrendously offensive, is a blatantly loaded request.

The interview was clumsy. It was unprofessional. It was unintelligent. Watching Obama keep his cool and out-talk one of the worst voices of our age was encouraging, admirable, and makes me look forward to the presidential debates, when our candidate will be up against McCain, who seems to me an honorable man.

Jack Thompson is very well known in certain circles. Scream his name on any random street corner, and you may get somebody dropping change in your hat.

Whisper it at PAX, however, and a frothing howl begins to fill the room.

This man, for some time now, has been known for his causes and his hate. Back in the day he went after music, trying to get Ice T’s song “Cop Killer” off the shelves. More recently, he went after gamers, saying we played “murder simulators,” that train us to re-enact all the school shootings we’ve seen on TV.

The man has been called crazy time and time again. His actions have called his ability to practice law into question, and at this time I’m not sure if his disbarment has gone through. Suffice to say, though, the world won and Jack Thompson is in a bad state indeed.

Recently, GamePolitics.com got an e-mail from good ol’ Jack, containing nothing but a picture of him.

Usually, in the real world, this is some crazy stalker shit.

In Thompson’s world, this seems to be some sort of effort to keep in touch with old friends.

Game Politics then updated the Thompson story. Apparently he sent a second e-mail talking about the uncharacteristically small coverage of hurricane Ike.

Enough with the small talk, Thompson. Where’s the jacket you borrowed?

The most convincing argument I’ve seen for global warming goes as such:

We could be right or wrong. We could act or not. This gives us four outcomes.

1. We work to fix global warming, and we were wrong.

No real loss.

2. We work to fix global warming, and we were right.

Good choice. Go team.

3. We leave things as they are, and we were wrong.

No loss.

4. We leave things as they are, and we were wrong.

Dear god. Mad Max is now a training manual.

So Governor Palin is under investigation for abuse of power. I’m not about to claim one way or another, because Americans are innocent until proven guilty. At the end of the investigation, though, the result will prove one thing or another.

For the purposes of this rant, let’s assume McCain is elected.

1. She’s proven innocent. We have a strong vice president. No loss.

2. She’s proven guilty. We now have an inexperienced vice president a heartbeat away from the presidency, willing to abuse power for personal reasons.

I realize comparing Palin to a global natural disaster is a bit unfair. It just seemed to fit.

I’ve tried a few times to express my feelings on Palin. I keep getting angry, though, turning the post into an unfocused rant, and leaving it for later.

My annoyance at the issue has been through a bit of a journey. At first the choice seemed a blatant and sexist political ploy to appeal to women. Then republicans, unblinkingly, started contradicting themselves in adoration for Palin. And now, apparently, we’re all the sexist ones.

Fortunately, the Daily Show has produced the best six minutes of television I can remember, showing why the Palin decision is making me so annoyed.

To somebody this is art.

To me, who hasn’t spent the time studying art, and isn’t entirely sure he wants to spend hours of reading art history and criticism so that he can truly and fully understand a banana mask, it’s beautifully weird.

Google’s new browser, Chrome, is in beta.

I have, from time to time, considered how much of my internet experience involves Google.

I check my e-mail with Google.

I watch videos with Google.

I check my daily news through Google reader.

When I need to go somewhere, I use Google maps.

My search engine is Google.

I really don’t seen an end to what I would use Google for. One day I will be staring at a web page on google, my mouse hovered over a button that says “Download Google Ass Wiper.”

This will seem neither strange nor unnecessary to me. I will click that button.

And then, some day, after corporate America has sent all of its secrets using the “Google secure inter-office memo app,” Google will take over the world.

And all I’ll think is, at least they’re good at what they do.
